Tax Credits
If you would like to contribute to our district’s schools in a way that costs you nothing, the Arizona Tax Credit is an easy way to help.
How Can I Contribute?
The Arizona tax law (ARS 43-1089.01) allows all taxpayers a tax credit of up to $400 if they contribute to an extracurricular activity in an Arizona public school. This tax credit is available to all taxpayers; you aren’t required to have a child in school.
This tax credit is different from a tax deduction. A deduction allows you to subtract the amount of the deduction from your taxable income. A tax credit is a dollar for dollar reduction in the amount of tax you owe.
For more information, see below and visit the Arizona Department of Revenue’s page about the School Tax Credit.
Examples of Extracurricular Activities
The following activities are eligible for Arizona Tax Credit:
Athletics
Clubs
Fine Arts
Lab Equipment
Music Programs
Uniforms
How Does the Tax Credit Work?
You may contribute to a qualifying extracurricular activity in any Arizona public school, up to the following amounts:
Single or head of household - $200
Married filing jointly - $400
The amount you contribute does not have to be the full amount of $200 or $400. Even a small donation will make a difference to our schools.
To support the schools in Bowie Unified School District, simply write a check to the school of your choice and be sure to get a receipt verifying your donation to an extracurricular activity. When you file your tax return, you can claim this as a tax credit.
