Here at Bowie Unified School District, it is a privilege to help educate tomorrow’s leaders. Our teachers, staff, parents, and community members all work together to ensure that our students achieve their full potential.

Bowie is a rural community in northern Cochise County, Arizona, with about 600 residents. You’ll find us between exits 362 and 366 on I-10, approximately 100 miles east of Tucson and 45 miles south of Safford. Major economic activities revolve around agriculture and ranching; with pistachios, pecans, grapes, and chilies being our primary products. Bowie is home to Ft. Bowie National Historic Monument and played an important role in the wars against the Apaches in the Southwest.

There are many recreational activities within a short distance of Bowie as well as ample post-secondary education opportunities. Safford/Thatcher area is home to Eastern Arizona College and programs from Northern Arizona University. Sierra Vista has a branch of Cochise College and is home to the University of Arizona South Campus. Willcox and Benson also have Cochise College programs. Western New Mexico University is located in Silver City, New Mexico, approximately an hour and a half away. Arizona State University also provides online degree programs.

Opportunities for growth in the district are tied to the development of Bowie Power Station, a proposed 1,000 megawatt electric power production plant to be located approximately two miles north of the community. Bowie boasts ongoing agricultural production with ranching, orchards, and vineyards.

Our schools operate classes for kindergarten through grade 12, with an elementary school, a middle school, and a high school. We currently serve about 60 students. We have had a full-day kindergarten since 1987.

Our first school was built prior to 1897. Since that time, Bowie's pride in their public schools is evident. We boast the usual alumni array of doctors, lawyers, architects, judges, and many others from nearly all walks of the business and professional communities. Bowie graduates are in the public sector as well as the private sector of the state and nation as well as internationally. Most graduating students plan to attend post-high school programs.

Our libraries include a high school library, the Davey Baker Library at  Mary Doyle Elementary, and the Jimmie Libhart Library, which is a branch of the Cochise County Library.

The safety of our students, employees, and visitors is of the utmost importance to Bowie schools. To that end, we will not tolerate acts of violence or intimidation on the school property or other places where we conduct business.

Unacceptable behavior and actions include but are not limited to:

• Abusive Language

• Aggressive Gestures

• Threats of Any Kind

• Physical Activity

We videotape activity on the school property, and we will ask anyone engaging in such behavior or actions to stop, and/or we will ask them to leave. As a final course of action and in order to promote safety to all, we will call 911 if deemed necessary.
